Welcome to the official website of Hacheston Parish Council.
The Parish Council consists of 7 people from the village who are elected to represent the views of residents. We hold full council meetings 6 times a year including the annual meeting in May. Members of the public are welcome to attend any of the meetings and can speak on items of concern during the public forum at the start of the proceedings. Councillors are unpaid members and we are guided by a professional clerk and responsible financial officer, Mrs Jane Page.
The Parish Council is funded by a precept, a small part of your council tax, and our work includes the following.
Planning
The Parish Council is a statutory consultee on planning issues - we comment on all planning applications made for developments in the village. Major proposals always raise a lot of interest amongst residents and we hold public meetings if necessary. Parish Councils do not make the final decision on planning matters, that is the job of East Suffolk District Council, but we try to represent the views of the village as effectively as possible.
Local community
We support Hacheston Village Hall with a continuing contribution to the costs of maintaining Fairfield Green and recently we were able to access funds to help finance the installation of solar panels. We contribute to the cost of maintaining the churchyard and we can make donations to local charities.
Local issues
Traffic has long been a concern in our village and the plans to build a large Park and Ride in the parish, part of the massive Sizewell C project, are not welcome. A period of consultation is under way and the council will do its best to represent the village’s concerns.
You should find information on this website about these issues. If you wish to know more or you would like to raise any other matter please contact the clerk at: hachestonparishclerk@gmail.com
